One Team.
One Coordinated
Permit Set.
FirstPass Drafting prepares coordinated permit and construction drawings for residential and commercial projects throughout the United States.
Instead of coordinating separate drafting providers for architectural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical plans, you can work with one team to assemble the drawings your project requires.
Our process begins with the project, not a generic drawing template. We review the scope, identify the applicable jurisdiction, research relevant submission requirements and prepare the disciplines needed for the permit set.
G-010Review Sequence
A permit set has to do more than look professional. It needs to communicate the project clearly enough for a building department to review it, while addressing the codes, drawing requirements and project information applicable to that jurisdiction. That is why FirstPass approaches every permit project in three parts:
We determine what is being built, altered or converted and what disciplines are likely to be involved.
We identify the applicable authority having jurisdiction and review available permit, code and submission information relevant to the project.
Architectural and MEP information is developed as a coordinated package rather than as disconnected sheets whenever those disciplines are included in the scope.
General NoteWe do not promise permit approval. Final requirements and interpretations remain with the applicable building department and other authorities. What we do promise is a disciplined process built around producing clear, coordinated permit documentation.

R-100Residential
Residential projects range from a simple alteration to a multi-discipline addition requiring architectural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and structural coordination. Our job is to determine what the project needs rather than sell unnecessary drawings.
FirstPass can prepare plans for projects such as:

TI-100Commercial
Commercial projects often involve more coordination, more disciplines and more plan-review stakeholders. A commercial scope may require architectural drawings plus electrical, plumbing, mechanical, accessibility, life-safety or other documentation depending on the existing building and proposed use.
G-030Code Research
Building requirements are not identical across the country. FirstPass researches available jurisdiction requirements applicable to the scope and incorporates that information into the drafting process. A project may be affected by:

Δ-01Revision Delta
A plan reviewer may request clarification or correction even when drawings were carefully prepared. When your project includes our plan-check revision coverage, we respond to applicable building-department comments related to the original agreed drafting scope without charging you for every normal correction cycle.
This does not mean unlimited redesigns or changes in project scope. It means we stand behind the permit set we prepared and support it through ordinary plan-check corrections within the original scope.

G-040Workflow
Six steps from first contact to plan-check support. The scope is agreed before drafting begins, and the set is coordinated before it is delivered.
Step 1 / 6
Send the property location, project description and any existing drawings, sketches, photos or documents you have.
Step 2 / 6
We identify the likely drawing disciplines, available jurisdiction information and items we need from you.
Step 3 / 6
Our team develops the applicable architectural and building-system drawings.
Step 4 / 6
Related sheets are reviewed together for consistency between disciplines.
Step 5 / 6
You receive the completed drawing package in the agreed deliverable format.
Step 6 / 6
If the reviewing authority issues comments within the original scope, send them to us for revision.
G-050Distribution
Use FirstPass as an outsourced permit-plan resource so your team can stay focused on estimating, managing and building projects.
You do not need to understand how a permit set is assembled before contacting us. Tell us what you want to build and what information you already have.
Use FirstPass for production drafting, CAD/BIM assistance and coordinated documentation when your workload requires additional capacity.
Standardize drawing production across recurring improvement, conversion and tenant projects.
GN-01General Notes
Read these notes the way a plan checker would: they apply to every project we take on.
Architectural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical drawings can be coordinated through one drafting workflow.
We research the project location rather than assuming one set of requirements applies everywhere.
Our involvement does not have to end the moment the first PDF is delivered.
You know what disciplines and deliverables are included before drafting begins.
FirstPass is designed as a remote drafting resource for projects across the United States.
RFIClarifications
The questions building owners and contractors ask before sending us a project.
Response
FirstPass Drafting prepares residential and commercial permit and construction drawings. Depending on the project, a set can include architectural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, site and other coordinated drawings.
Response
Yes. FirstPass is structured to provide remote drafting services for projects throughout the United States. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, so the applicable city, county or other reviewing authority is researched as part of the project process.
Response
Yes. When required by the project scope, architectural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical drawings can be developed as one coordinated permit set.
Response
No responsible drafting provider can control a building department’s decision or interpretation. FirstPass prepares drawings around applicable requirements and supports normal plan-check corrections within the agreed project scope.
Response
Plan-check revisions related to the original agreed project scope can be included under FirstPass’s unlimited plan-check revision policy. Owner-requested redesigns or scope changes are separate.
Response
No. Send us the project address, scope and whatever existing information you have. We can help identify the likely drafting disciplines and additional information needed.
Response
Engineering and professional sealing requirements vary by project and jurisdiction. Where licensed engineering is required, the scope should clearly identify whether FirstPass is coordinating with an appropriate licensed professional or whether the client is providing one.
